Caleb Erickson Memorial

Today I learned the true meaning of being a part of a community. Waseca has not only made me feel like I'm welcome to celebrate with them, but also to share in their heartache. Caleb Erickson, a local Waseca marine, was killed while serving in Afghanistan, and the entire community participated in a memorial on old highway 14. I drove from Owatonna to Waseca along the road to where I was meeting my sisters, and the turn out was unbelievable. During the drive into town, there were individuals, couples, families, and groups of friends lining the highway. I couldn't help but choke up as I read sign after sign dedicated to Caleb, and I will never forget the elderly man who stood at the end of his driveway wearing his retired uniform in respect for Caleb and his family. Seeing the support shown by the Waseca and surrounding communities was inspiring, and something I am so honored to have been a part of.
